[Phoenix sweats bullets while nervously chuckling and glancing back towards Maruki.]

I think I could say the same, though all those desk-slams in the courtroom might have strengthened them a bit...

[He still has little to no confidence with the rope. But if Maruki's volunteering...]

Y-yeah! You know, if you feel like going ahead... by all means!

[(Maybe it'll be easier to follow him... that way when I look down, I can see something other than the bottom!)]

[ Do desk slams equate to arm strength? They're about to find out. Maruki lost a fistfight with a teenager, so he's definitely sunk, but he's already volunteered, so... ]

A-alright! Easy does it...

[ Taking the rope in hand, he gingerly lowers himself into the well, bracing his feet against the wall. At least it's not a functioning well, so it's not terribly slick. Very, very slowly, he starts to make his way down. ]

Haha, this isn't so bad! [ he says, already sweating.... ] I haven't done this since I was a kid at summer camp.

[He hopes they do. They feel like a good workout!

Phoenix watches with second-hand anxiety as Maruki grabs the rope and begins climbing down. No magic solution has provided itself, so he might have to join him soon. He just waits until Maruki's down a bit before grabbing onto the rope.]

It's never been my favorite part of PE class... but, uh, here I come?

[With that, Phoenix, one limb at at a time, grabs onto the rope and wraps his legs around it, ultimately clinging to it much like a koala. After a moment, he very slowly starts inching his way down.]

W-we got this.

[ And down they go! Focusing on the task before him, Maruki's attention doesn't deviate away from his hands on the rope or his feet against the wall, until he thinks he has a decent enough handle on things to glance upwards and ask: ]

How's it going up -- ahh!

[ Oops. His hands slip and he loses his grip. Looks like he's falling the rest of the way to the bottom! It's not too far, at least?! ]

[Phoenix makes his way down... at a notably slower pace, much like an inchworm.

But when Maruki calls out and falls, panic quickly sets in.]

Maruki!! [He reaches down with one hand to try to catch him! But it's too late, and this causes his own grip to slip - resulting in him falling right down after Maruki!]

[ For the sake of sparing them from broken bones as well as public humiliation, it's a short fall to the bottom of the well, and Maruki manages to roll out of the way before Phoenix lands himself. It's the small victories that count-- ]

Oww, my back...I don't even want to think about going back up.

[ Guess he's stuck here. Sitting up, he rubs a hand against his lower back as he leans towards Phoenix. ]

Are you alright, Phoenix-san?

Hrgh...

[Phoenix groans, similarly with an aching back.

I'm glad I didn't fall on him... but on the other hand, it would have been really nice for something to break my fall...!)]

Fine. Fine, yeah, I'm... alive. [He feels like a turtle trying to move.] Think we can do this thing lying down?

[ Their first kiss, lying down? uwu...the suggestion kindles the warmth in Maruki's cheeks, which is saying something, considering he's still pretty warm from the climb down. But also --

Phoenix didn't break his back, did he? Is that why he's having a hard time moving? Oh, god. ]

I-I don't see why not...if that's what you'd like.

[ A soft chuckle as he scrubs his hand against the back of his neck. The shoujo bubbles are manifesting... ]

We made it through the hard part. Now that we're here, I feel strangely...at peace.

[It does have kind of a scandalous feel to it. On top of being scandalously convenient! Hi s back isn't necessarily broken, but it is hurting pretty bad now! Doing it this way may help him conserve his energy.]

I guess it'd give the viewers at something different, yeah? [He says with a soft laugh.]

You know, now that it's over with, aside from the throbbing pain in my back, I do feel kind of a peace too. It feels like a... a good moment for this!

[With that, he starts trying to sidle himself over to close the distance between them.]

O-okay then... here I come!

[(If Maya's watching, I'm never gonna hear the end of this...)]

[ This is definitely the first time he's had someone say "here I come" while leaning in to kiss him, but it's so absurd it's charming, and a snort of laughter escapes him. Whatever happens, he won't regret giving this a shot. That's what he's been trying to do this whole time, right? ]

[ He teases, but good-naturedly, before he's leaning forward on one hand, dipping down to close the distance between them and press a soft, simple kiss to Phoenix's lips.

He doesn't linger, but even so, there are butterflies fluttering in his stomach when he draws away. ]

[And just like that, it's happening. Phoenix is slightly tilted to his side, as much as his back will currently allow, while allowing his head to face Maruki, primely positioned to receive the kiss. He moves his lips to kiss back before their parting. He may have done a bit of kissing here on the show, but otherwise he hasn't really done this in years. He feels a warmth greater than he thought he'd feel at the bottom of this well, and a rush of energy he hasn't felt in a long time.

He lays there smiling softly in the aftermath of the kiss, awaiting the verdict.]

[ The bubbles kind of... drift over uncertainly, because what the hell is going on here. Why are you two on the ground. What is happening. They're just bubbles. They didn't ask for this. No one cares if it's inconvenient for the bubbles, though. Selfish fucks.

It's fine, they have a silent bubble conversation and then float closer to these two weirdos can see the results. ]

[He looks on in shock, first at the bubbles, then at the kid... it's a lot! Phoenix raises a pointer finger in the air.]

Objection! Objection!! I... I demand an appeal!

[But that's likely falling on false ears, so he turns his attention back to Maruki. Feeling a little embarrassed after those results! Phoenix clasps his hand while trying to get back up to his feet.]

Thanks. [He blinks as something clicks for him.] Wait. W-we have to get back up too??

... Want a lift? I kind of feel bad for you two.

[ ...this feels like a trap but he doesn't know how

But they can't look a gift potato in the mouth. With a polite bow of his head: ]

If you wouldn't mind, we'd appreciate that very much.

[ Otherwise they might die down here and that'd be bad for ratings, probably. ]
